Grants for Propane School Buses


Nationwide School Bus Rebate: Anywhere in Texas or U.S.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) School Bus Rebate has $10 million to help fund the replacement of model year 2006 or older diesel buses that drive more than 10,000 miles in a typical year with cleaner school buses like those powered by propane autogas.


EPA awards $25,000 per propane bus, apply for up to 10 replacements. School districts with over 100 buses can submit 2 applications for replacement of up to 20 replacement buses.

The application is short. 2 pages, but is due Friday, October 30, 2020. Selection is by lottery. At least one school district from every state in the U.S. will be selected from the application pool.



School Bus Grants for Schools in Texas Clean Transportation Zone

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has $13 million available first-come, first-serve for the replacement of older operational diesel school buses with new propane school buses through the Texas Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Program.

School bus must operate 75% of the time in the Clean Transportation Zone. Schools can apply now & buy later.


The Propane Council of Texas, a non-profit educational foundation provides complimentary propane grant help for school needing guidance. Texas school district staff can contact the Council at (800)325-7427 or at info@propanecounciloftexas.org for help with propane grant applications or propane grant questions.
